Castle Hill Park
The castle, situated on the hilltop from which it is named, "la Colline du Château" and its Citadel were erected in the thirteenth century, under the domination of the Savoy dynasty. It was then conquered and destroyed by the French army in 1706 commanded by King Louis XIV.
You can now visit the interesting ruins of this historical castle as well as those of the first church of Nice, Sainte Marie de l'Assomption.
The immaculate gardens of the large plateau on Castle Hill's summit are an oasis of tranquility, fresh air as well as a base for activities such as jogging, tai chi and for children's recreation.
From the magnificent South-West terrace of the Tour Bellanda, the site of Nice's Naval Museum, you can enjoy a formidable view of Old Nice, the Promenade des Anglais, and its breath-taking Baie des Anges.
Every Sunday afternoon at 4 pm, from July to September, you can enjoy a 1 hour free puppet show whilst every night from Tuesday to Saturday an entertaining strolling show is held, which retraces the most important events of the history of Nice and its Castle: La Castellada.
The furthest south-eastern tip of this hill has a balcony dominating Nice Lympia Harbour. This offers a picturesque view of Nice's Cape, Mont Moron and Mont Alban with its Bischoffsheim Cupola: Nice's astronomical observatory.
But where is Castle Hill? It is staring at you, just go to Nice Nest balcony for a better view!
